Why You May Need An Apostille or Certification

If your official certified or notarized documents are going to be used outside of the United States, they will frequently need an Apostille or Certification. The Secretary of State of California issues Apostilles and Certifications for documents for which they authenticate the signatures of certain public officials, such as Notaries Public, County Clerks, Clerks of the Superior Court and Judges of the Superior Court. Such documents include Birth Certificates, Death Certificates, and Marriage Certificates, documents notarized by California Notaries, and Court Orders from the California Superior Court. Other documents that the Secretary of State issues Apostilles and Certifications for include documents signed by certain State of California public officials. Some Certified documents require additional legalization from a Consulate or Embassy for use in the destination country.

The State of California's Secretary of State's office in Sacramento officially says that they take up to 2 weeks to process mailed orders for Apostilles and Certifications on documents which require signature Authentications, including documents signed by County Clerks and Notaries Public in California.

We can get an Apostille on any document in California that has been authenticated by a County Clerk in California, for any of the 58 California Counties. Your signature or authentication by the County Clerk must have been obtained within the last 5 years in order to be accepted by the Secretary of State.

All services for notarized documents include one free notarization for each document (if needed, only if you come to our office at 4025 W. Adams in Los Angeles by appointment only). We can also get Apostilles on Certified Documents from all other Counties of California, as long as they have been certified (within the last 5 years) in the County in which the document was issued by the County Clerk-Recorder.

We charge $5 for all orders for shipping via United States Postal Service Priority Mail. We pay for insurance for all orders sent by Priority Mail (at no additional cost to you). Pricing is as follows:

Your first Apostille costs $160 if it requires Notary Authentication (for notarized documents from Los Angeles County or Orange County. We do not perform Notary Authentication for any other California County). Additional Apostilles are obtained for $50 each. This includes all fees that we must pay to the agencies.

Your first Apostille costs $110 if it is Certified by the county clerk/recorder in your California-state county. These documents include notarized documents that have been authenticated by your county/clerk-recorder, Marriage Certificates, Birth Certificates, Death Certificates, and Court Orders which are signed and stamped by your county clerk-recorder.

All additional Apostilles for 1-day service are $50 each.

All documents are shipped back to you using the United States Postal Service's Priority Mail Service, which includes delivery confirmation. We charge a mandatory $5 for this service, unless you opt to provide us your Fed Ex, UPS or DHL account number for your package to be returned, or if you provide other payment for another form of shipping. We pay for insurance when we ship your Apostilled documents back to you using Priority Mail, at no additional charge to you, using the amount of money you paid to us as the insured amount. This service is available for documents from all California Counties (including Kern County, San Luis Obispo County, Tulare County, Inyo County, Ventura County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, Kings County, Monterey County, and Orange County), provided that the documents have been signed or authenticated by the County Clerk's office in the origin County within the last 5 years. For Los Angeles County Birth and Death Certificates, the Certificates can be older than 5 years, but a $40 handling and processing fee will be charged for obtaining a Certificate of Exemplification of the Health Officer who signed the document. Also, please ensure that your documents have been stamped by the Los Angeles County Clerk/Recorder.



Economical 3-Day Apostille Service for Los Angeles County Certified Documents, Orange County Certified Documents and Certified Documents from Other State of California Counties

With this service, we will get your Apostille between 1 and 3 days, and send it to you. Use our Apostille Service Order Form to place your order. Your documents will be ready for pick up from our office (by appointment) within 3 business days, and we will call you as soon as your documents are ready for pickup! I can also mail or ship your documents back to you using the shipping method of your choice (you will pay for shipping!)

For this service, you will pay $95 total, for the first notarized Los Angeles County or Orange County document that needs an Apostille, or $85 for the first County-Clerk/Recorder Certified Document (and $50 total for each additional Apostille). You will pay $5 for USPS Priority Mail shipping (or supply us your Fed Ex, UPS or DHL account number). Note: these are your TOTAL fees. It includes the counter fees charged by the Los Angeles County Clerk and the counter fees charged by the Secretary of State.

Concierge Apostille Service

For our Concierge Service, we will drive to your location (up to 15 miles one-way, $2 per additional mile one-way), notarize up to 10 documents free of charge ($10 per additional signature), and take your document to the County Clerk (if applicable) and/or the Secretary of State to obtain your Apostilles or Certifications, and we will drive your documents back to you within 24 business hours. The fee for this service is $220 plus the actual charges to be paid to the Secretary of State or Los Angeles County Clerk, plus any additional mileage fees. For people who are adopting children, it's important for you to know that my Notary Commission expires November 5, 2013.

Legalization Services

For documents which need to be legalized at an Embassy or Consulate, , the total charge is $260 for the first document and $40 for each additional document, and you will receive the document when the legalization process is complete (it can take a week or more sometimes, depending on the country's embassy or consulate. You will be advised when the documents will be ready after our visit to the embassy or consulate). Note: on rare occasions, the Secretary of State or Los Angeles County Clerk's office can experience computer and/or power outages, which may cause a delay or disruption to this service. If this is the case, you will be notified immediately. Hollywood Notary.Net will still be owed the full amount agreed to in any case of delay due to circumstances beyond its control.

Sending Documents To Us By Mail or Overnight Delivery

For customers who are not dropping off their documents in person, (such as clients from outside of California, or clients from other countries), you can send your documents to us and use one of the services listed on this page.
